Study for the containment of the north end of Smithfield Civic Space.

Smithfield has undergone a dramatic transformation in the last 15 years following the Development of the old distillery site along the east side including the viewing tower, The redesign of the civic space itself, completed in 1999 following an international competition and the completion in 2005 of a major residential development forming the west side of the space.

Though dramatically transformed, the containment of the New Civic Space of Smithfield is not complete. Most notable is the current inadequacy at the north end. Dublin City Council commissioned Donnelly Turpin Architects to review options that address this perceived deficiency and to investigate solutions of appropriate scale for the containment of the Smithfield Civic Space.
