School Street Childcare

The childcare facility provides both full-session daycare for pre-school children and after-school care for 6–12 year olds. The incentive for the project was to give young mothers the opportunity of returning to the workforce. The ground floor of the building is envisaged as the pre-school level. Classrooms are organised around external play areas with direct access to the outside spaces. The first floor accommodates older children and the childcare management with the large multi-functional ‘after-schools area’ serving as a community room in the evenings. A spine of service accommodation runs along the boundary wall to the existing school building.
