23-27 College Green

Type:
Status: Completed 2015
Client: Clarendon Properties Ltd.

This is one of the premier Landmark buildings of College Green. Up until 2014 it had been in continuous occupation as a bank headquarters since its construction in 1864. This project involved the conversion of the building to accommodate a 5 storey flagship retail store and 8 apartments on the floors above it. The challange lay, firstly, in developing the extensive reconfiguration required to accomodate its new uses while preserving and enhancing the buildings architectural heritage qualities. Secondly, though no less challenaging, was overseeing the delivery of the flagship store to the retailer in August 2014, 12 months after the planning application lodgement.

The retail store of the project now incorporates an openess and a visual inter-connection throughout the floor plates that has dramatically transformed the introverted 'back room' spaces that characterized the banking HQ. The restored features of the great bank spaces overlooking College Green are among the finest in the city.

The apartments above are gathered around a generous and secluded south west facing roof terrace in the centre of the block. Accomodated within the varying roof profile of the building's three frontages, the apartments have individual characters.
